Graphing Lab Component Trends
Graphing is available at the lab component level. A graph is most useful to see how a component is trending over time, compared to looking at the most recent value. Multiple values are graphed so that you can review the patient’s progress.
Most Lab Results are numeric. However, if a Lab Result contains any non-numeric characters (for example, “straw” or “+2” or “<.5”), then it is not included on the graph, and message to that effect is displayed.
1. From the Lab Results Summary screen, select any lab result panel (such as a CBC).
The panel Detail view or the panel Table view is displayed, depending on the last view that you used.
2. Select a row for a specific component (such as K for potassium).
The component Graph or Lab Report view is displayed, depending on the last view that you used.
3. If the Graph view is not already displayed, tap Graph at the top of the screen switch to that view.
The normal bounds for the component are within the white band. Values in the red areas (above and below the white band) are outside the normal range. When you first open the graph, the value for the currently selected component result shows as a purple point, while all other values appear as gray points.
While looking at the Graph view, you can also perform these additional actions:
Select a data point on the graph. When you select a data point, it turns into a purple circle, and the date and value for that point are displayed just above the graph. To select a data point, tap on it.
Zoom in or out on the graph. When there are a large number of data points on the same area of the graph, zoom in to blow up the details for a particular period of time. Zoom back out again to see the big picture. To zoom in, use the “stretch” gesture. To zoom back out again, use the “pinch” gesture.
Order the same component again for this patient. If the CPOE Orders module is implemented at your organization, and also enabled in your user profile, you can place a new order for this same component by tapping the Order Again button at the top right of the screen.
View the Lab Report for the component. Tap Lab Report at the top of the screen switch to that view.
Go back to the panel view. Tap Back to go back to either the panel Detail view or the panel Table view, depending on the last view that you used. Tap Back again to go back to the Lab Results Summary.
